Festival of Youthfulness: Experience at the Youth Festival
Hello everyone ,
The Skit theatre event saw enthusiastic participation from different colleges and departments. They covered many important topics, like women’s safety, issues of abuse, and current social problems. Some skits focused on serious issues to raise awareness, while others used humor to make people laugh and think at the same time. The mix of serious and funny performances made the event enjoyable and meaningful for everyone.

One Act Plays, Skits, Mime, and Mono-Acting
The festival kicked off with a lineup of One Act Plays and skits, each bringing a unique theme and style to the stage. These performances were a melting pot of human emotions: love, ambition, anger, and humor. Some plays took a tragic route, exploring human suffering in ways reminiscent of Aristotle’s Tragedy, where characters battled inner conflicts that evoked a mix of pity and awe. Others leaned towards Comedy of Humours, as described by Ben Jonson, with exaggerated characters whose quirks entertained and provoked laughter.
The skits, though short, packed a punch, often with humorous takes on social issues, from stereotypes to societal expectations. This mix of satire and critique brought to mind Irving Wardle’s Comedy of Menace, where the humor had an edge, hinting at underlying tensions. The mimes, meanwhile, captivated us with their silent, expressive storytelling, emphasizing the power of body language over words.
Drama:
The plays themselves could be placed within a variety of genres, each adding a unique texture to the festival. A few even had a touch of “Bollywoodish” flair, filled with high emotions, melodrama, and an almost cinematic quality that resonated with the audience.
The Poetry Event: કાવ્ય પઠન (Self-Composed Poetry)
One of the quieter yet deeply impactful events was the poetry recital. Here, young poets shared self-composed pieces, baring their hearts and thoughts. Themes ranged from the beauty of nature and the struggles of self-identity to dreams of freedom and reflections on love. The poems were rich in metaphor, conjuring vivid images and emotions with every line. Though I could only catch snippets due to the limited space, each verse resonated with the unfiltered expression of youth.
Fine Arts Display:
The final day of the festival opened the doors to a stunning showcase of fine arts. Walls were lined with expressive cartoons, paintings, and posters, each piece communicating messages on social justice, cultural pride, and introspection. The satirical cartoons drew laughter and reflection alike, exposing the flaws in modern society with a clever, visual bite. The posters and collages leaned towards didacticism, carrying messages of unity, peace, and resilience. Sculptures and clay models offered an aesthetic experience, their intricate details capturing the spirit of youth with elegance and vigor.
Reflections on the “Festival of Youthfulness”
The Youth Festival truly lived up to its name as a "festival of youthfulness" – a celebration of creativity, passion, and the fearless expression that defines youth. It was more than just a series of events; it was a platform for young voices to shine, a reminder of the power of art to inspire and connect. From the dramatic highs and lows to the subtle beauty of poetry and fine arts, each moment was a testament to the vibrancy of young talent.
As the festival drew to a close, I felt a profound sense of pridef and inspiration. Being part of this festival wasn’t just about watching performances or admiring art – it was about experiencing the pulse of youth, the power of expression, and the joy of shared creativity. It’s an experience I’ll carry with me, a reminder of the boundless potential that art and passion can unlock in all of us.
